In the world of breast reconstruction surgery, Dr. Liu has refined the Pectoralis – Sparing Breast Reconstruction procedure, which gives patients natural – looking reconstructed breasts that duplicate healthy breast tissue, are soft, and fall to the side with positional changes. This technique is able to eliminate motion artifacts, post-breast reconstruction and other related deformities, restoring the natural appearance and behavior of women’s breasts. Another benefit of this surgery is that it can restore Pectoralis Major function and improve post-reconstruction arm weakness that many women experience.

In addition to performing complex breast reconstruction techniques, Dr. Liu is one of the few surgeons in the country who have expertise in calf reduction procedures. Patients, worldwide, seek out Dr. Liu for this unique procedure which minimizes musculature in the calf and removes unwanted adipose tissue that makes the calves look fat and results in “cankles”. In 2015, Dr. Liu began performing transgender plastic surgery and feminization procedures for those who are seeking a unified image of their body and soul. With his advanced surgical skills, he is able to perform precise and delicate transformative surgeries, whether for aesthetic reasons or life-changing reconstructive surgery, that produce great results with minimal scarring. Procedures include breast – related Top Surgery, Hip and Buttock Augmentation, High-Definition Liposculpting, and Calf Feminization and Mascularizing surgery. Dr. Liu took the practice of advanced liposuction to new heights by training with Dr. Alfredo Hoyos, one the world leaders in High Definition Vaser Liposuction. These revolutionary techniques have changed the way liposuction is performed to produce the best aesthetic results. Dr. Liu’s High Definition Liposuction practice offers High Definition Arm and Calf Sculpting surgeries and lipo-sculpting of the torso to either enhance a patient’s masculinity or femininity. Dr. Liu is also knowledgeable in Advanced Thread Lifting techniques, training with Korean Physician Dr. Han-Jin Kwon, who developed the Supra-V Thread Lifting technique for non-surgical face-lifting. This technique allows patients who don’t need surgery yet, another a way to improve their appearance and rejuvenate their facial features, which may be in the early stages of aging and sagging.

Dr. Liu’s professional background encompasses training with accomplished surgeons who have have been pioneers in plastic surgery. After graduating from Duke University with high honors, and Emory University Medical School in Atlanta, he completed seven years of General Surgery training at New York Medical College in NYC, of which two years was spent on a Plastic Surgery Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston with Dr. Dennis Orgill.

His initial course of advanced study took him to Taiwan, where he completed a Microsurgical Fellowship at Chang-gung Memorial Hospital under world – leading microsurgeon Dr. Fu-Chan Wei. This experience gave Dr. Liu experience in performing advanced aesthetic and reconstructive techniques, including the most advanced Asian eyelid and nose procedures.
He then began a Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Tulane University in New Orleans, training with Dr. Gustavo Colon, a preeminent aesthetic surgeon and former president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Through this Fellowship, he acquired extensive experience in breast cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, eyelid surgery, abdominal contouring, and advanced liposuction techniques.

During his plastic surgery fellowship, Dr. Liu also trained with Dr. Robert Allen, the world – leading Microsurgical Autologous Breast Reconstruction expert and developer of the DIEP Breast Construction procedure that all reconstructive plastic surgeons now use. With his wide range of experience as a plastic surgeon, he opened his private cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery practice in Beverly Hills, California in 2009.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Liu has received multiple honors and awards. In 2017, he was named one of the “Top Ten Plastic Surgeons in Beverly Hills” while Los Angeles Magazine included him on their list of Top L.A. Doctors. Dr. Liu was also selected by Castle Connolly for their list of “Top Plastic Surgeons.”

In 2013, Dr. Liu experienced a life-changing event when he was asked to join “Mission Ayacucho” (http://www.ayacuchomission.org), a week-long humanitarian surgical project in Ayachuho, Peru. As part of a team of surgical experts, Dr. Liu has performed many reconstructive surgeries on indigent children and adults with cleft palates and serious burn scarring, while correcting other disfiguring deformities. Since then, he has returned to Ayacucho each summer to provide his expertise to those in need.

While stem cells and its role in regenerative medicine has been on the public conscious for some time as novel and cutting-edge medical therapies for medical conditions with limited treatment options that are safe and effective, Dr. Liu developed and integrated stem cell therapies into his medical practice in 2022 and formally launched these treatments under the Avant Anti-Aging Center brand. The mission of this new entity was to provide safe, effective and cutting-edge treatments to address the three pillars of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine: Looking Great! Feeling Great! and Functioning Great! While offering traditional medical spa and plastic surgery treatments and services, these centers will have an additional emphasis on Hair Rejuvenation, Anti-Aging Stem Cell based treatments, and Sexual Wellness therapies.
